The Young Carers Service

The New Forest Young Carer Service is provided by Community First New Forest, a registered charity (no. 1068964) We support children from 7 to 18 years old with a caring responsibility for a family member. This could be anything from a Mum with MS, a Dad with bipolar or a brother with Autism and behavioural problems. Very often because of the health problems of their parents, the family income will be substantially lower than other families meaning there’s no spare money for treats and trips, and sometimes even the basics the rest of us take for granted.

This is where we step in to try and give Young Carers the opportunity to be a child and to help families’ access services that can make their lives easier as well.

We currently support over 220 Young Carers and their families through a programme of:-

• One-to-one support
• School and Group work
• Trips and activities giving much needed time out
• Family support
• Signposting other useful services and support agencies
